July, 2007 Hi friends,
As a young boy, first playing baseball, I dreamed of winning and wearing a World Series ring. Like many other youngsters, this was a goal that I hoped I would achieve.
In 1997, I was lucky enough to win that coveted ring with the Florida Marlins. It was one of the best days of my baseball life and last month I had the opportunity to relive that great time. The occasion was interleague play, the scene was Dolphins stadium in Miami and the event was the 10th Anniversary of the Marlins winning the World Series trophy.
On June 14, I joined with many of my teammates from the 1997 team in a pre-game ceremony that honored our victory. We enjoyed being there with the fans who came out to see our team and to cheer on this season's squad as they took on the Cleveland Indians.
Most important, the anniversary gave us the opportunity to support the Florida Marlins Community Foundation as it raised funds for the important work they do for young people. A fun event was held earlier in the week and the proceeds will benefit the Foundation as they help youngsters to build a brighter future through education, the arts and baseball.
We've added some photos to our photo gallery and you can also visit the website to view (and purchase) where photographer Denis Bancroft has posted all of the photos from the celebration.
That's it for now. I'll be back soon with my next entry.
